When "of" is followed by a consonant sound, it sounds like "a".

kind of full = kinda full

lot of tasks = lotta tasks

 

When "of" is followed by a vowel sound, it sounds like "av".

kind of alert = kindav alert

lot of answers = lottav answers

 

 

Have

Reduce "have" when it comes after a helping verb. When "have" is followed by a consonant sound, it sounds like "a".

could have prepared = coulda prepared

shouldn't have gone = shouldn'ta gone


When have is followed by a vowel sound, it sounds like "av".

could have intended = couldav intended

shouldn't have asked = shouldn'tav asked

 

Reduce Common Short Phrases

When phrases are commonly used, they often can be reduced.

did you eat = j'eat

what is the = wassa

where did you = where'd'ya

why did you = why'd'ya

 

Final Consonant to First Vowel

Link the final consonant sound of one word to the first vowel sound of the next word.

committed employee = committedemployee

don’t interfere = don’tinterfere

 

Final /i:/ /eI/ /aI/ and /ɔɪ/ to the First Vowel Sound

Link final /i:/, /eI/ /aI/ and /ɔɪ/ of one word to the first vowel sound of the next word. Link them by saying /j/ between the words.

employee agreement = employeeyagreement

day appointment = dayappointment

try under there = tryunder there
